How A.I. Technology Impacts Your Perception of Flowers

So... I've had this post drafted since the spring of last year. And, my goodness, has AI evolved so rapidly since then. AI has begun to trickle into every area of consumption. One piece that especially impacts my line of work is how it has shifted the visual floral inspiration couples bring to the table.
Anyone who knows me knows I have some hefty opinions on the use of this new convenience. Being such a creative at heart, it saddens me to see it strip creative individuals of some of their desire to bring an idea or concept to life, or wrongfully pull inspiration from the genuinely thoughtful work artists put into their projects.
Today, I wanted to highlight just how AI can impact, and even distort, your perception of the beautiful blooms you see all over Pinterest as you get inspired for your wedding day.
FIRST... LET'S PLAY A GAME!
I want to test just how well you can spot the difference between AI vs actual, real floral designs created by a living, breathing, passionate human. Don't be too overzealous to scroll as to not reveal the answer to yourself! Let's see how you do!

How was that? I'm curious to hear from you in the comments if you were surprised at any of the results!
LET'S DIVE A LITTLE DEEPER
Below, I'll point out just a few of the various ways this new technology can skew your floral view. I encourage you to take this a little further and browse through your Pinterest boards and inspiration photos to see if any of this may hold true for you!
FALSE FLOWER HOPE | Starting with my biggest gripe between AI and flowers... it's a ridiculous amount of times that I've stumbled upon a generated bouquet that features fragrant Gardenia or vibrant Hibiscus flowers. Certain flowers simply do not hold up when cut from their source, much less in a bridal bouquet that needs to be out of water from when you slip your dress on until your very last photo with Aunt Sally (who insisted, of course). While there are some darn beautiful blooms out there that are practically shouting to be in floral designs - I'm looking at you, lilac... the high risk of your wedding day blooms wilting is never a chance to take.
SENSELESS SEASONALITY | Pinterest conveys that you can have any flower in your bouquet at any time of year - that if your eyes love it, it's possible! In the flower world, it is so much more complex than this. The photos you find may lead you to believe that a perfectly crisp white rose or a blue poppy exists - both of which, my friend, cannot be found. It's the role of your florist to help guide the direction of your vision, and so much of this hinges upon your wedding season. Pinterest could show you the most beautiful Dahlia bouquet you've ever laid your eyes on... but your wedding is in March. See what I mean? Darn Pinterest!
UMM... WHAT IS THAT ONE? | AI is so silly sometimes... it really does try it's best. Sometimes it is SO creative it just makes up brand new flowers! Given the vast flower world, there is often a similar looking candidate. Just beware that a flower you've got your hopes set on may not even turn out to exist! Crazy, right?!
SO, WHAT CAN I DO?
I want you to leave this article confident that you are now a pro when it comes to spotting real from fake. Once you begin noticing these things, it becomes SO obvious to point out! Here are a few helpful things to pay attention to:
SMOOTH & FLAWLESS | Is FaceTune still a thing? Because it seems like these AI photos integrate it some how. When you come across a photo of someone holding a bouquet, zoom in! If you find not a single wrinkle, freckle, or hair out of place - you've got yourself a faux photo.
Another thing to look for when a person is visible in a photo... count them digits! Often AI has a hard time generating hands, adding too many fingers or putting finger nails on a knuckle...

OR... FAR TOO IMPERFECT | On the opposite end of this, you may see flowers that look far from perfect. Wedding florists have immensely high standards for what belongs in a bouquet. Real flowers always have faint imperfections (it's natural), and over time, AI has tried to adapt to those flower flaws. What you pictured below, however, is never acceptable to hand off in a florist's eye.

CRAY CRAY COLORS | The wonderful world of flowers, hybridizing and evolving over the years, has made way for some incredible blooms that seem unreal in the best way. While there are versions of blue poppies that exist out there somwehere, it would be incredibly unfeasible to get your hands on through any promising supplier.

UNIQUE DESIGN CHOICES | Florists spend years mastering and honing in their craft, all for AI to spit out bouquets with design choices that so - unique... that's the only word that quite fits the bill here.

And to conclude...
Now, go out into the vast world of Pinterest feeling equipped to spot the dupes that can make or break your wedding flower dreams! You can breathe easy because with fresh flowers, you can often get really close to some of this artificial inspiration, just set your hopes realistically! If you know a bride-to-be who may find this post helpful for planning their wedding flowers, would you share this? I'd be so grateful!
